In the ancient days, it was famous by the name of Purimtaal and Prayag. In some of the historical books, it is also described by the name of Purimtaalpada. Aadishwar Bhagwan has achieved Kevalgnyan on (approximately) 11th day of Krishna-paksha of Falgun in Uttarashadha Nakshatr in morning, while sitting in Shukla-meditation. According to Digambar sect, the Diksha-Kalyanak also took place here only. The tree under which Prabhu achieved Kevalgnyan became famous as Akshay-Vatvriksh and from then this holy place was been called as Prayag. Mother of Prabhu, Shri Marudevi has got he opportunity to see the royalty of the atisayayukt samvasaran of the Teerthankars. She was riding on the elephant, well decorated with gems & jewellaries and a flow of tear started flowing her eyes due to which the mesh vanished off her, clearing her eyes. At the very same time, she entered into Kshapak-shreni completing the cycle of apoorvakaran, the fatal karm came to an end and she attained Kevalgnyan. She became Antahkrit-kevali. The ill-fatal karm such as age etc. also finished at the same time and her soul straightway attained Moksh, sitting on the elephant. During this period the grandson of Prabhu, Shri Rishabhsen, was the ruler of this region. He along with many other kings came to visit and impressed with the incidence & took Deeksha. He became the first Ganadhar of Prabhu. After Aadishwar Bhagwan many other teerthankar has visited this place.
