Seven Balbhadramunis and many other Munis attained salvation here. One of them was Muni Gajsukumar. That is the reason why this place is called Gajpantha. According to jain scriptures this is a very ancient tirth. In the ninth century of the Vikram era, Chamraj Odiyar, the king of the Mysore state renovated this tirth. Therefore, it is also called Chamarleni.
