Historical Details :

This teerth place has been mentioned as Sanghpur in ancient history. As per the inscriptions in Jain history, Ashadhi Shravak has established Jin idols at Charup, Stambhpur and Shankheshwar. According to a myth, the army of Shri Krishna was relieved from effect of Jara weapon used by Jarasandh in the battlefield after using the holy water of bathing this idol was sprinkled on them. History of the idol of Shri Shankheshwar Parshwanath is still very ancient. Shri Sajjan Shah, mahamantri in the court of King Sidhhraj Jaysingh have reclaimed this teerth in association with Acharya Shri Devendra Surishwarji, the guru of Kalikal Sarvagya Shri Hemchandracharyaji. This was the period of richness of this city. It has been mentioned in Jain Shashtras that Mantri Vastupal Tejpal has done all necessary renovation of this teerth place being inspired by the preaching of Acharya Shri Vardhaman Surishwarji in (approximately) VNS 1755 (VS 1286). Probably, after this period, teerth place was damaged or destroyed and hence the king of Jhinjhuvada Shri Durjanshalya carried out necessary renovation during VNS 1771 (VS 1302). Muslim invader Allauddin Khilji and his soldiers have destroyed this teerth place during 14th century. Prabhu idol was kept safe by Shri Sangh. Muslim Emperor Shahjahan has released orders (Shahi Farman) to hand over Shankheshwar village in favor of nagarseth Shri Shantidas of Ahmedabad in VNS 2125 (VS 1656). Manaji shravak, a resident of Gandhar village have rehabilitated this teerth place following the suggestions of Shri Vijaysen Surishwarji approximately during this period. Renovation and pratishtha work once again took place during VNS 2229 (VS 1760) by the hands of Shri Vijayratna Surishwarji, the pattadhar of Shri Vijayprabh Surishwarji. All these incidents proves the ancientness and richness of this teerth place.
