Historical Details :

History begins from VS 802 but the idol of Shri Panchasara Parshwanath Bhagwan is much older than that. Brave king Vanraj was searching a proper place to establish his capitol place, which could replace the loss of Vallabhi and Bheenmal. After discussing he gave this responsibility to Gopalak Anahil Bharvad (famous as Tarkik Shiromani). Anahil Bharvad went on searching a proper place and at last reached her. He saw a Bitch (female dog) and a Jackal at the bank of Saraswati River. Considering this as the good signs he suggested this place for the establishment of the capitol place to King Vanraj Chavda. As per the suggestions of Jain businessman (Shreshthi) Shri Champa, the foundation of the capitol city at this spot was choosen by Shri Anahil following Jain spirituals on Monday the Akshay Tritiya of VS 802 and laid foundation by the hands of Nagendra Gatchhacharya Shri Sheelgun Suriji. This city was named as Anahilpur Patan and Shridevi Shravika has crowned the king Vanraj Chavda. Afterwards the King brought the idol of Shri Panchasara Parshwanath Bhagwan from his rational capitol place Panchasara and established it in the newly built temple with a huge ceremony. Shri Sheelgun Suriji performed the establishment ceremony. Later Vanraj Kshemraj, Bhuvad, Bajrasingh, Ratnaditya and Samantsingh belonging to Chavda family during 9th and 14th century ruled at this place. Later on King Kumarpal belonging to Chalukya (Solanki) family became the ruler. He built many temples like Vanraj Vihar, Moolraj Vasahika, Raayvihar, Tribhuvan vihar and Kumar vihar etc during his rule. The army head of Allauddin Khilji destroyed this city during VS 1353-1356. Many temples along with other artistic places were damaged. As per the research work done by Pt. Shri Kalyanvijayji, Patan city was re-established around VS 1370 and many temples were constructed. According to the history of Khartar Gatchh, many temples and Acharya idols were established during VS 1379 and 1381. Shri Lalitprabhu Suriji has described about 101 Jain temples and 99 derasars in his book "Patan Chaitya Paripati". Thousands of idols comprising 38 idols made by valuable stones were established in those temples.
