Sherisha was a part of Sonpur city, which has been destroyed in time-scale but Sherisha is still present with its beauty. Ancientness of this place could be easily identified from the remainings spread in nearby areas. As per the inscription available, the temple of Shri Parhswanath Bahgwan, famous as "Lodhan Parshwanth" during those days, established in 18th century of VNS (13th of VS) by Shri Devchandracharya. Inscription on the platform of a damaged idol says that Mantri Vastupal Tejpal has established idol of Shri Neminath Bhagwan in the temple for the repentation of the sins committed by his brother Maldev and his son Punnsingh during 13th century of VS. Great poet Shri Lavanyasamay has described the greatness of this teerth in his beautiful poetry "Sherisha Teerth Stavan". After 16th century of VS, the Muslim invaders destroyed this teerth. Some idols were recovered from the findings and placed in a house purchased from a villager (Gwala) in VS 1955. Five of them were coated in VS 1988 and established in the temple built by Shreshthi Sarabhai Dahyabhai of Ahmedabad by the honorary hands of Teerthoddharak Acharya Shri Vijaysensurishwar in VS 2002. |
