Historical Details :

History of this place can be identified from the findings from this area. It was famous as Peepalpur, Peepalpur Patan, and Peepalgram in its olden days. Being inspired by Shri Punya Tilaksurishwarji, the Acharya of Vallabhi branch of Anchalgatchh, Shrimal Seth Shri Punja Shah (Katyayan gotra) has erected a temple having 1444 pillars & 72 Devkulika and a pond. It is stated that he invested about 1.25 crore of Rupees for this holy purpose. The pond is still seen in very poor condition. A damaged idol of Shri Ambika Devi and a parikar is present near the pond. It is mentioned on the parikar that the idol of Shri Neminath Bhagwan was established by Shri Jayprabhsuriji on Jyeshtha Shukla 2 of VS 1261. It proves that there was a temple long before Shri Punja Shah has erected this temple. City was known as Peepalgram up to VS 1355. Name of this city might have changed after VS 1414 when Ramji Chauhan defeated Rajputs of Sunwar Vansh. Present temple is thought to be built in 12th century of VS. Nothing is mentioned on the idol.
